About RTSP Camera Viewer
RTSP Camera Viewer is a native Ubuntu Touch application for viewing RTSP security cameras. It is vibe coded using AI.
Features:
• Save and manage multiple cameras
• H.264 RTSP video playback
• RTSP over TCP
• Username and password authentication
• Adjustable stream latency
• Light and dark themes
• Automatically open a selected camera when the app starts
• Camera settings are stored locally on the device
RTSP Camera Viewer connects directly to the cameras you configure. It does not use a cloud service, create an account, or send telemetry.
Currently supported video codec: H.264.
Audio playback is not currently supported.
Compatibility and testing:
RTSP Camera Viewer has been tested on a Fairphone 5 running Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.0 with UniFi G3 cameras.
The development device is also my primary Ubuntu Touch device and was modified during development and GStreamer troubleshooting. I have therefore not yet been able to verify the application on a freshly installed, completely unmodified Ubuntu Touch device.
No additional GStreamer packages or root filesystem modifications should normally be required.
If RTSP Camera Viewer does not work on your device, please see DEBUG.md in the source repository. It contains instructions for checking the required GStreamer components and, for advanced users, testing whether installing additional GStreamer packages changes the result. Feedback from other Ubuntu Touch devices is very welcome.
Permissions:
• Networking, required to connect to RTSP cameras configured by the user.
• Video, required for video playback.
Privacy:
RTSP Camera Viewer does not collect telemetry or communicate with the developer's servers.
Camera URLs, usernames and passwords are stored only in the application's private local storage.
Credentials are currently stored unencrypted inside the application's private storage. Users should protect access to their Ubuntu Touch device accordingly.
