About Livewire
Livewire is a messaging app for Ubuntu Touch, designed for getting started quickly and ease of use. It's compatible with any provider that uses XMPP, the open standard for instant messaging. Sign up at your provider of choice, or even host your own, and start chatting with family and friends.
Features:
* End-to-end encrypted messaging.
* Join and talk on public channels on a worldwide network.
* Push notifications.
* A simple UI, designed for ease of use.
Livewire is alpha-quality software. See the repository for the development roadmap.
Notable missing things:
- Audio/video calls (that will come much later).
- Proper public channel search.
Recent Changes
This update is almost entirely about bug fixes to the various things added in 0.5. Specifically: more problems with the OMEMO implementations have been identified and fixed, a bunch of changes to how outgoing messages are handled to handle spam, and group chat message loss issues are addressed.
And for some reason, we decided to bolt on support for XEP-0171: Language Translation. Created in 2005, meant to send messages in multiple languages. Zero recorded implementations. Until now. Livewire will now properly handle incoming stanzas according to this XEP, if the message was sent with multiple languages. On Sailifsh OS, it can also translate outgoing messages via the Speech Note app's translation API. Support for outgoing translations on Ubuntu Touch will come at a later time.

- Fix: OMEMO message edits, device announcements, and outgoing encrypted media now work more correctly.
- Fix: Messages interrupted during encryption or media sending resume or fail cleanly instead of getting stuck.
- Fix: Overhaul of group chat sync (MAM fetch) when connecting so that gaps are filled, to prevent losing messages.
- Fix: Group chat subjects, image captions, and occupant avatars more likely to update correctly.
- Fix: Read markers and message previews no longer show incorrect status or undecryptable traffic.
- Fix: Do not spam outgoing chat markers, and backoff when room is rate limited.
- Fix: Make sure group chats we have closed/left stay closed.
- Fix: Push notifications respect group mention settings and no longer alert for replies to someone else.
- Fix: Sailfish OS group member and invite search no longer close keyboard on every tap.
