About Kaidan
Kaidan is a simple, user-friendly Jabber/XMPP client providing a modern user-interface using Kirigami and QtQuick. The back-end of Kaidan is entirely written in C++ using the qxmpp XMPP client library and Qt 5.
Kaidan is not finished yet, so don’t expect it working as well as a finished client will do.

Kaidan release version 0.6.0
This release adds the following features:
When offline, messages are cached now to be sent later
It's allowed to also correct other messages than the last one now
Also pending (unsent) messages can be corrected now
New option to permanently hide your password in Kaidan
New buttons for easily copying your jid and password
Moved account management pages into the settings
The cursor is moved to the end of the text field when correcting a message now
The roster is called contact list now
The resource for the displayed presence is picked with fixed rules now (it was random before which resource is displayed)
Switched to the upstream HTTP File Upload implementation
Code refactoring and partial rewrite of the following classes: Kaidan, ClientWorker, RosterManager, PresenceCache, DownloadManager, TransferCache, QrCodeDecoder
This release fixes the following bugs:
Playback issues in media video preview
Messages sent from other of your devices are displayed as they were sent by the chat partner
Roster names are not updated in the database
Roster items are not updated in the model correctly
All sheets contain two headers: It uses the new built-in header property now
Unreadable buttons with white text on withe background in some styles
Database version isn't saved correctly
Errors when building with newer ZXing versions
This app was originally released by the Kaidan Developers, and is now maintained separately for Ubuntu Touch. This version of Kaidan is not the most current version of Kaidan, but is held back due to the QT versions used by Ubuntu Touch. Features such as the content hub have been added for uploading files and sharing photos, etc.
Ubuntu Touch release version 0.6.0:
Available for Focal and Noble users. It is limited by Focal's QT version of 5.12, and, while fully functional for XMPP messaging, it does not support OMEMO encryption. Version 0.6.0 also does not support system notifications.
A newer version is in the works for Noble 24.04.1, which has QT version 5.15, that will support OMEMO2 encryption and *hopefully* system notifications.
PLEASE NOTE:
What kind of features that you can use with XMPP depends a lot on the client and server. If your XMPP server does not support file sharing, then you cannot send pictures, audio, or video to your XMPP contacts. The app will only show the option to share photos and files if your server supports it.
If you wish for the app to run in the background, you will need to use the Tweak Tool click to prevent app suspension.

Adjustment of keyboard hack to better support devices like the Pixel 3a. On large screen devices, there may be a slight gap between the top of the keyboard and the bottom of the text input field, but now users on the Pixel 3a can see the full input field.

Sweet! I am so pumped to see the foundations of a full xmpp app for Ubuntu touch. Login was smooth and normal. The UI is solid and the foundations strong. I could share a photo easily and communicate quite well. Only one major bug is that the keyboard currently covers my message so I cant see it as I'm typing but I am sure this will be resolved soon.

It is apparent that this will not be updated. When you go to add a contact you can't see what you are typing. At least on a Nexus 5 it is unusable.appapp

Looks nice, but there is a long time since was published and it seems that the development for the UT version is stopped. It still has many bugs.

Until it can be updated with the newer qt version, don't bother with this one; this old version lacks too many features.
