About Sähke

Sähke is a native mail client for Ubuntu Touch 24.04. It is written in QML and Python (PyOtherSide), runs as a confined click, and connects only to the mail server you configure.

The user interface is available in English (default) and Finnish, chosen at the top of Settings. The choice is remembered by the app. Pages, dialogs, notices and error messages follow the selected language.

Features:

* one POP3 or IMAP account, SSL/TLS or STARTTLS
* inbox list and message reading; reading never marks a message as read
* sending and replying through SMTP
* a local trash with restore; emptying the trash deletes selected messages from the server only after a confirmation
* three Revontuli themes (blue-black by default, plus red and green), chosen in Settings
* English and Finnish interface
* Sign out at the bottom of Settings removes the local account, stored password and trash; language and theme are kept and server messages are untouched

Privacy:

Sähke contains no analytics, advertising or third-party services. It connects only to the user's configured mail server. The account password is stored in the app's own config.json (mode 0600), because a confined click cannot use the desktop keyring on this Ubuntu Touch version. Messages leave the app only through the user's mail server.

Confinement:

The click requests only the networking policy group. It has no unconfined helpers, no background service and no root component.

Limitations:

One account. No attachments open/save, search, offline cache, background notifications or multiple accounts yet. The interface is English and Finnish. Sähke is an independent project and is not an official UBports application.

Recent Changes

Sähke 0.5.4: Text fields in the blue-black theme now use a subtly lighter black surface while keeping blue text, so they remain visible against the black background.
