About Camera (Xenial)
The Camera app has only the absolute basics but it is simple and intuitive. Movie mode and camera mode are selected by icons and in the same way you can switch between front and back cameras.
With that done, you have just the usual big red button in the middle. Nothing else.
Remember that in Ubuntu Touch, when you want options, you swipe up from the bottom edge. Until you swipe upwards, you won't see anything fancy there but after swiping you see selectors for flash, grid lines, illumination, HD, and geo-tagging. Although it is not really a setting, you will find the self-timer hidden away in there too.
In that view, you will see the Settings cogwheel at the top right but don’t get too excited. The only option there is to overprint the photo with date and time. This may provide value if you are a lawyer or a big fan of retro.
Some further important points of detail: You can touch the screen to direct the focus to the item you want to be sharp. Otherwise the camera will make its best guess. The remaining item on the options view is a slider where you can set the format and the number of megapixels actually used. Here you can change the resolution to a minimum to save storage memory and bandwidth when sharing files, or, to change to higher resolutions if you plan to print or impress!
Finally, what looks to be a selector between landscapes, people and macro mode is not that at all. It hides a choice between basic, normal, high and fine quality. If you are a photographer you will want to use fine.
